This is an opportunity for a very strong Microsoft software engineer, with a minimum of 10 years’ commercial experience of the full software development lifecycle using primarily Microsoft products and languages, to join an established, innovative Microsoft Gold Partner in the South Manchester area. This role requires an individual with excellent problem solving and analytical skills and a flair for transforming customer requirements and processes into a software solution.

Our principal engineers are experienced and versatile individuals that can work on the technically challenging aspects of customer projects and support and guide other members of the team. They are responsible for driving the technology that underpins our customer solutions; this technology covers all levels of the development stack from presentation to persistence. This role requires a very strong engineer with a passion for technology; a drive to excel is essential.

Some travel to customer sites may be involved.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


    • A bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or Mathematical discipline (or equivalent)
    • A minimum of 10 years’ solid commercial experience of Microsoft development tools, products and languages
    • An in depth knowledge of the .NET framework and C# from at least .NET 2.0
    • A minimum of 5 years SQL Server development, performance tuning and optimization (SQL 2005+)
    • A proven track record of architecting and designing robust, reliable, performant and innovative solutions
    • Experience of developing systems that target client-server, mobile, rich client and sometimes connected architectures through Web Services and REST
    • A genuine interest in technology with a willingness and openness to new ideas, directions, tools and languages
    • Experience of mentoring, guiding and supporting other developers, particularly around maintaining / improving standards
    • Good written and verbal communication skills, especially around UML


  • Experience of web presentation technologies such as ASP.NET MVC, jQuery, CSS3, HTML5, ExtJS
  • Experience of other presentation technologies such as Silverlight and Windows Presentation Foundation
  • Experience of object to database mapping approaches and tools (Entity Framework, NHibernate, custom approaches)
  • Experience of Business Reporting Solutions such as SSRS and Crystal
  • Experience of other SQL Server technologies including replication, SSRS, SSAS and SSIS
